Las Cruces crosses

The story goes that Las Cruces is named after the history of this area used as a crossing; crossing the Rio Grande and crossing the Organ Mountains with a history of many years of human habitation. The other story goes that the area was named after the crosses placed on the graves of early immigrants.

The photo makes a stab at one of these legends but, of course, the crosses are now three and in red, white and blue. I am never sure whether my eyes should salute or pray.
